Dr. Fred A. Crawford Jr. Joins SE Healthcare Advisory Board
CHARLESTON, SC, April 9, 2015 – SE Healthcare Quality Consulting announced today that Fred A. Crawford, Jr., M.D., has joined its Advisory Board. He is an accomplished surgeon and a long-time educator who has held a number of national leadership roles in the thoracic surgery field.
Dr. Crawford is a former Chairman of the Department of Surgery with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and has served as Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at MUSC and as Chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is a Distinguished University Professor of Surgery at MUSC.
Dr. Crawford served as Chair of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, the national credentialing board for certification of thoracic surgeons, as President of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and as Chairman of the Joint Council on Thoracic Surgery Education. He is member of the American Surgical Association Advisory Membership Committee and previously served on the Board of Governors for the American College of Surgeons and as American College of Cardiology Governor for South Carolina.
He received the American Association for Thoracic Surgery Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. Dr. Crawford is editor of Operative Techniques in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and served on the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is also on the editorial board of Surgery News.
Dr. Crawford authored or edited 18 books or book chapters and has published more than 245 papers in peer-reviewed professional journals.
