CHARLESTON, SC, April 19, 2016 – Dr. Richard Hammer and James W. Saxton, Esq. were invited speakers at Guy Carpenter’s Medical Professional Liability Networking Forum held April 13 – 14, 2016 in La Jolla, CA.
In their presentation, Liability & Economics For Doctors:1 + 1 Can Equal 3!, Dr. Hammer and James Saxton discussed how the use of specialty-specific measurement tools can provide opportunities for doctors to reduce both frequency and severity of medical malpractice claims and can positively impact their economics in the post Affordable Care Act era. They also explained how the transition to value-based reimbursement may go to the core of medical professional liability companies’ businesses.
The forum, attended by executives from leading medical professional liability insurance companies, professional liability agencies and reinsurers from around the world, addressed topics relevant to the delivery of health care and the challenges faced by insuring physicians, physician group and hospitals that provide health care.
Mr. Saxton has sustained an active litigation practice for more than 30 years, representing doctors, hospitals and other health care professionals in state and federal court and administrative proceedings. He lectures frequently and is an invited speaker across the country on health care issues, including liability reduction and risk management. He presents to nationally prominent health care organizations such as the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the American Society for Health Care Risk Management and the Physician Insurers Association of America.
Dr. Hammer is a board certified physician with more than 20 years of experience in health care delivery and the business of medicine. He has experience creating and implementing practical solutions for health plans, employers groups, integrated medical systems, private physician groups and insurers. He served as Vice President of Clinical Market Development for BlueCross where he developed and led a market facing team of physician medical directors focused on accountable care, physician engagement, health plan customers and broker/consultant relations.
