CHARLESTON, SC, March 26, 2015 – The 2015 Regional Association of Childbirth Educators (REACHE) of Puget Sound Conference featured a presentation by Richard N. Waldman, M.D., a member of the SE Healthcare Quality Consulting Board of Directors. The conference, held March 20, 2015, in Seattle, WA, was attended by Childbirth Educators and focused on the effects of the consensus statement, “Safe Prevention of the Primary Cesarean Delivery,” released by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Dr. Waldman’s presentation, “Preventing the Primary Cesarean,” focused on ACOG’s development of clinical documents and consensus documents and the definition and management of abnormally progressing stages of labor. Dr. Waldman also discussed the role of doulas, childbirth educators, nurses and their clients in decreasing the likelihood of a first cesarean.
Prior to the conference, Dr. Waldman participated in an interview conducted by REACHE on the guidelines related to primary cesarean delivery, as well as his role as past President of ACOG, a premier private, not-for-profit organization of 56,000 members dedicated to the advancement of women’s health care through continuing medical education, practice and research.
Dr. Waldman is a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is the President of the Medical Staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, NY, a member of its Board of Trustees and past Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Medical Director of Performance Improvement. He has been practicing OB-GYN care in the Syracuse, NY, area since 1976, and is President of Associates for Women’s Medicine, a nine physician obstetric and gynecological specialty practice.
He has lectured extensively on pregnancy and childbirth across the United States and has also lectured internationally. He has published several articles in peer review journals and co-edited an issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of North America dedicated to collaborative practice. Dr. Waldman has received numerous honors, including a U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal, an ACOG District Service Award, an ACOG Section Service Award and an award for community service from the Onondaga Medical Society.
Dr. Waldman received his medical degree from the New Jersey College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY.
